If we want to provide quality care to patients, then we must be committed to the wellbeing of those working within the profession. This session will explore how veterinary wellbeing is directly connected to discrimination and oppression. We will explore concrete ways veterinary hospitals can promote wellness in context of discrimination so that our wellness approaches are both equitable and inclusive for all.

Angie Arora
Professor @Seneca College
Angie Arora is a registered Social Worker who has worked at the cross-section of the human-animal-bond for over 17 years, specializing in veterinary wellness, end-of-life and pet loss support, and equity issues within the profession. As a Wellness Coach and Certified Compassion Fatigue Specialist, Angie works with animal-care providers to foster self-connection, personal and professional growth. She is on the Board of Directors for the International Association of Veterinary Social Work and works with VetVine as a VETPeers Wellness Coach and Pet Loss Facilitator. She is a Professor with Seneca College’s Social Service Worker Program, where she was the principal investigator of a research study that developed guidelines for veterinary teams to better support clients through their pets’ end of life. In addition, Angie has developed and teaches a microcredential through Seneca aimed at improving the stress response for those working within veterinary and shelter medicine.
